I worked in communications at my last employer and was tasked with creating the first sustainability reporting. After that, I developed the topic step by step and was able to anchor and position sustainability more and more in the company. Sometimes with support, but more often in the face of headwinds and scepticism from the management as to whether sustainability was relevant at all. Nevertheless, after almost 15 years, I am still working in the field of sustainability and I am happy to be working in a company that has recognised its relevance.
An insurance company can make a big contribution to sustainable development in the economy and society. That makes it interesting for me and that's why I applied to Baloise. I was all the more attracted to the position when I noticed during interviews how seriously and professionally Baloise wants to drive sustainability forward. Even today, I am convinced that I am in the right company.
«If Baloise succeeds in setting accents here and is perceived by stakeholders as a responsible and sustainably acting company through transparent and clear communication, this is not only a competitive advantage but also a clear testimony to being future-oriented.»
As Sustainability Manager, I am responsible for implementing the Baloise Group's strategy in Switzerland. In order to achieve the goals that have been set, the Sustainability Network Switzerland was founded, which I head. This network consists of representatives from all areas relevant to sustainability, which means that a lot of expertise comes together and can be bundled. In addition, there are individual projects in the area of public affairs, with which we maintain and expand Baloise's reputation. Overall, I have a very diverse job that brings me together with many people and always creates new points of contact for sustainability.
Insurance companies can take sustainability into account in various functions. These include investing insurance money, assuming risks or creating incentives in the area of products and services. In my view, these areas are all relevant. If Baloise succeeds in setting accents here and is perceived by stakeholders as a responsible and sustainably acting company through transparent and clear communication, this is not only a competitive advantage but also a clear testimony to being future-oriented.
I would like to make a contribution to Baloise achieving its sustainability goals and continue to drive further development with ideas from the network in Switzerland and together with my colleagues in the Group and the networks in the countries. That makes an impact.
Baloise has developed strongly in recent years and has set out on the right path in terms of sustainability. In my opinion, this is decisive, right and important. With the ratings, which have improved steadily in recent years, external institutions are showing us that our efforts are bearing fruit.
Where there is still potential for development in my eyes is in products and services, which must be increasingly adapted to the requirements of sustainability. However, here too we are constantly striving to develop and meet the needs of our stakeholders and to further develop our products and services for the future.
Sustainability criteria are playing an increasingly important role for all Baloise business areas. This also affects the way we select the risks we insure. Find out how sustainability and underwriting are linked here.
