Baloise Insurance identified as an outstanding employer once again
Blog Baloise Insurance identified as an outstanding employer once again
Kim Berrendorf May 27, 2020
In 2020, we were awarded the Friendly Work Space label by Health Promotion Switzerland for the fourth time in a row – scoring 4.83 out of a possible 5 points! The Friendly Work Space label is only awarded to organisations that successfully implement their corporate health management (CHM) and make systematic efforts towards good working conditions for their employees.

Simply Safe – also for our employees

With the Simply Safe strategic focus, we are launching our new approach and goals through 2021. With three ambitious goals relating to employees, customers and shareholders, we began a journey towards future growth in 2017. The goal relating to employees: to belong to the top 10 per cent of employers in this sector by 2021. Development is measured by a performance indicator that indicates how often Baloise is recommended as an employer. Our corporate culture and the cultural evolution brought through our Simply Safe strategy is not only supported and determined by management, but also considerably by our employees. In order to follow our strategy in terms of deeds, 200 highly committed and networked employees developed the Baloise CODE (only in German), which promotes cultural change across all hierarchies and makes it tangible. The Baloise CODE is consistent with the Baloise behavioural values: “Put yourself in the other’s shoes”, “Act authentically and earn trust”, “Develop and engage – yourself and others”.

«I am absolutely thrilled that we belong to the 10 per cent top businesses with the Friendly Work Space label, which shows that we’re on the right track in terms of our strategy. We believe that only satisfied employees can lead to satisfied customers, and without them it would be impossible to achieve sustainable business management with a long-term focus.»

Corporate health management as an essential value

Prerequisites for employee commitment are their mental and physical well-being and their work satisfaction. In essence, CHM focuses on achieving and improving these three health-related dimensions. Senior leadership at Baloise Insurance and the Corporate Executive Committee believe that CHM is an essential value for the company’s success. With their investments and their trust in CHM, they demonstrate that the health and well-being of employees is truly important to them.

Sustainable business management thanks to satisfied employees

«Since the first certification in 2010, we have been recertified three times as of 2020 – rehabilitation in the corporate strategy and a CHM impact model for the sustainability and presentation of results with the aid of key figures in particular have recently aided us in improving certain areas and strategically further developing CHM. The score of 4.83 out of a possible 5 points shows that we are currently at an outstanding level.»

The Friendly Work Space label commends not only the CHM within the company, but also various aspects relating to human resources and work organisation such as development opportunities, support for a positive working atmosphere, reintegration and a good work-life balance. All CHM offers and measures contribute to the success in achieving Simply Safe objectives: dedicated employees lead to satisfied customer and thus to sustainable success.

The value-added model introduced in 2019 also mirrors this activity. When it comes to sustainability, we focus on the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations (UN SDGs). With the support of our employees, we contribute significantly to the goals UN SDG 3 (Good health and well-being), 4 (Quality education) and 8 (Decent work and economic growth).

An employer on whom you can always rely

We stand out in the market through our value culture, the work environment and a development focus, which are based on fair remuneration. An environment in which values are not just written on slides, but embodied every day, and in which we promote a respectful, non-hierarchical “equal footing attitude”. For us, Friendly Work Space means more than just a label. Our employees enjoy the diverse work culture every day: when everything is running normally or during times of crisis, our cooperation is characterised by a high level of flexibility, individual responsibility and creative freedom.
